Tell us about Tulip and the journey to where you are now
Tulip is a mobile application provider for retail brick and mortar stores. Our mission is to empower the retail associates with world-class mobile-first, cloud-first enterprise software that transforms the in-store experience.
While building retail company well.ca as a former CEO, I realized how technology is greatly lacking for larger retail. Starting Tulip is where I focused to change that and to disrupt retail. In the beginning, we were fifteen engineers who knew retail software really well but didn’t know much about the future of retail. We started the company by partnering with larger retailers and asking them about the biggest challenges that they have in their stores. It was through those conversations that we realized that there was a gap in the market for technology that would enable associates to create a personalized experience with their customers.
What is the #1 piece of advice you have for fast-growing companies?
My biggest advice I’d give to growing companies is to be willing to admit when you are wrong. Growing a company is all about making assumptions and taking big risks. Sometimes those assumptions are wrong, and when you do discover that, it’s important to recognize the mistake, find a solution and move on.
Tell us about your experience with the Deloitte Fast 50 program.
We’re proud to be selected to join other great companies in the Fast 50 program. Over the past six years, we’ve invested heavily in building a cloud-based SaaS solution that helps retail associates better service their customers. This hasn’t been an easy path but we’ve had great learnings from working with some of the top global retailers. It’s very rewarding to be recognized for our work in this space and be amongst some of the most innovative companies.
What’s next for Tulip?
Tulip started from day one with a big, multi-billion dollar mission to improve enterprise retail software. In 2020, we will make big announcements around how we see an opportunity to disrupt the industry in an impactful way. If Tulip is successful, we will make shopping in stores a better experience for millions of retail employees and their customers globally.
