Loopio’s north star metric is to build a company that is the cornerstone of people’s careers

Tell us about Loopio and the journey to where you are now

The idea for Loopio was formed when I found myself bombarded with repetitive requests for information for RFPs, security questionnaires, and other sales documents during my time as a Sales Engineer. When I couldn’t find a solution that streamlined the process, I partnered with my co-founders Matt York and Jafar Owainati, and we decided to bootstrap our own product. We officially launched Loopio in the fall of 2014. Since then, we’ve grown to over 700 customers (including world-leading companies like IBM, FedEx, and AT&T) and nearly 130 employees.

How is culture aligned with organizational performance?

Loopio’s mission as a company is to empower people to focus on what matters. This is as true for our customers as it is for our people. Our north star metric is to build a company that is the cornerstone of people’s careers. We do this by giving them the tools and opportunities they need to develop their skills because we believe that investing in employee growth will translate into business growth. Loopio’s 4.9 Glassdoor rating and awards for workplace quality from LinkedIn, The Globe and Mail, and The Elevated Awards are all testaments to our focus on culture.

What is your #1 piece of advice for growing companies?

Have a growth mindset and be open to re-invention every three to six months. If you can embrace change and let go of things that no longer serve you, you’ll grow faster. You’ll also need that mentality if you want to build a high-performing team; there’s a symbiotic relationship between growth-focused employees and high-growth companies. We tell every new employee when they start that “there is no Loopio way.” This gives them the freedom to experiment and question everything we do—which wires them to think about how we can do things better from day one.

Tell us about your experience with the Deloitte Fast 50 programme. 

We were selected as a Company-to-Watch in the 2018 Fast 50 Awards. Winning a Deloitte Fast 50 Award this year is incredibly validating. It tells us that we’re on the right path when it comes to our growth strategy. What we love about Fast 50 is how thoughtful and vigorous the awards are in their approach to assessing applicants. They go back through five years of revenue data to ensure that only companies with real, sustainable growth are being recognized. We are honoured to be associated with an inspiring and prestigious brand like Deloitte.

What’s next for Loopio? 

We plan to continue building a world-class company by creating products and services that people can’t live without. We’re already solving a really big problem for companies across the world, and we’ll continue exploring how we can solve adjacent problems.
