Tell us about NXM Labs and the journey to where you are now.
Scott: Our journey started two years ago when we were working with Sprint in the United States to develop a connected car product platform. Along the way, we developed remarkable security technology that has been validated by many companies. We decided to really make that the focus of our company, in terms of being able to extend that technology globally. That is what we have been working on as a team for the last two years. SR
How does company culture contribute to your success?
Josef: Our culture is driven by innovation. But at the end of the day, also reflects a “get it done” attitude. Now, we are investing in a company that is positioning for high growth.
Scott: Our culture reflects the core technology of the company, which focuses on fostering trust among the myriad connected products and services we depend on every day. So as a company, you focus on building an organization that embodies those same values.
What are the opportunities for the future of Canadian tech?
Scott: I think the biggest challenge facing Canadian technology companies, especially startups, is our proximity to the largest market in the world, which dwarfs what can be done in Canada. The real opportunity is to leverage that proximity and build products here that can be sold in the US and scaled globally.
What’s next for NXM Labs?
Josef: 2019 is product blowout. 2020 is going to be business expansion. We are largely focused on the US market today, but by the end of 2020, we will be aiming to enter other countries.
