Tell us about Chisel AI and the journey to where you are now.

Chisel is an Artificial Intelligence platform focused today on the insurance market, where we help brokers and carriers automate mundane tasks such as paper work and reading of policies. Tomorrow, we are going to expand into banking and broader retail market place.

In terms of the market being big enough, luckily we are in the second largest market in the world. There are many startups popping up, and we believe that part of it is going to be about enlarging the pie. As more and more startups bring efficiencies, the pie is actually increasing in size. Our goal is not to take a piece of the value that used to exist, but to create new value and call it our own. We look at ourselves as market builders, rather than somebody that is coming into an existing market.

How does company culture contribute to your success?

Here at Chisel, we have five core tenants that we believe in and ask our employees to embody - excellence, integrity, trust, innovation, and teamwork. Those five tenets are going to help us build an amazing team.

Our culture is going to evolve in a couple of different ways. One of the most interesting things that have come to life this year is our US office opening. We are one big team no matter how far apart we are. At the end of the day, we are all Chisellers.

What are the opportunities for the future of Canadian tech?

Some of the challenges I have noticed, especially in the Canadian market, is talent acquisition. With Microsoft, Amazon and some of the biggest companies opening their office in Toronto, there is a crunch for talent. We are always looking for people who are motivated, eager to make an impact, hungry to prove themselves, and team players. Because at the end of the day, it is all about having fun.

What’s next for Chisel?

Chisel is going through a big year right now. We have a lot of things on the horizon coming up. One of them is the expansion of languages and geography. Today we support English, French is under way, and this year is our year to expand to Latin America! We are currently going through the process with one of our main customers to expand into 15 new countries, meaning we are going to have all of the Americas covered - very exciting for us!
